Qasbaum | The process: production, assembly, building

The Qasbaum’s realization process consists of three distinct phases:

  • The Production of each single component (walls, floors, pillars, beams, doors, flooring, staircases, fixtures, etc.). More than in the ordinary building process, the places of production can be located in several countries because each component will converge not directly to the building site, but to a sort of detached “factory” where all components will be assembled.
  • Assembly takes place in a covered and safe establishment. The best choice is to place such an establishment near a transport hub, to facilitate both stuff and people mobility. The location for the assembly doesn’t require particular equipments, save those tools use to move and arrange the components that will constitute the single module.
  • Building on site is easy and quick: a semi-trailer truck arrives with a module, and a crane takes it and puts it in its final position. Each module is self-load-bearing and can be safely connected to the others.

The process’ key point is assembly. Modules’ building activities are generally completed in the inner space (where facilities, finishing, doors, windows, etc are added) and the external skin is finished on site (with insulating and/or shading systems).

This process prevents damages during the modules’ transport and their movement. Assembly requires a specialised work management but, because its fordistic inspiration, it can also employ not specialized workers.
